Brittany Simpson and her family lived through one of the worst nightmares that any dog owner could experience after their beloved pup named Ruger went missing from their yard.

Ruger’s family searched for him tirelessly. They kept hoping that he would eventually be found because he was microchipped.

Sadly, seven years passed, and Ruger’s family had no news. They were convinced that their adorable pup had been stolen and lost all hope of seeing his sweet face once again.

Little did they know that Ruger would find his way back home.

In June of 2024, Rebecca and her daughters found a pup who was roaming around in their yard in Amarillo, Texas.

The dog was in bad condition. He had a skin infection.

Although the canine was skittish and distrustful, Rebecca and her family managed to lure him in. They fed the doggo and bathed him.

Since the pup still trembled after the bath, Rebecca knew that he needed to see the vet right away. She suspected that he had a fever.

A few hours later, the kind-hearted woman took a photo of the canine and posted it on Amarillo Pet Lost And Found. She hoped that his owners would recognize him.

That June day seemed like a regular day for Simpson. She was scrolling on Facebook when a familiar face appeared on her mobile screen.

Simpson was shocked.

“I immediately saw him and my heart dropped! I was like, ‘That looks so much like my dog,’” Simpson told The Dodo.

The pup in the photo looked older, but Simpson recognized his telltale markings.

Overwhelmed with emotion, she commented on Rebecca’s post, saying that she believed the pup was her dog, which had been missing for seven years.

She posted an older photo of Ruger as proof.

After seeing the photo, Rebecca was convinced that it was the same dog. She took the canine to the vet, where he was checked out and scanned for a microchip.

As soon as Simpson received a call from the microchip agency, she rushed to the vet’s office to reunite with her beloved dog.

Everything seemed so unreal. Simpson never thought she would get a chance to see Ruger ever again.

Once she arrived at the vet, Simpson approached her beloved pup and stroked him tenderly.

Ruger kept his head down. He didn’t recognize her right away.

Simpson believed that Ruger wasn’t treated well by the people who had him. He had a double ear infection and a bacterial infection throughout his body.

She took the pup to his forever home in Amarillo.

The doggo’s family welcomed him with outstretched arms filled with love.

Simpson’s children never forgot their sweet pup and they were over the moon to have him in their lives again.

“It feels like we’re living a dream. We just sit and cuddle him and watch him sleep,” Simpson added.

Ruger’s humans were determined to make up for all the lost time and shower him with the love he lacked all these years.

Shortly after arriving home, Ruger started healing and adapting to life with his family, who adored him.

He began opening up to his humans and soaking up their immense love.

Finally, Ruger is back where he belonged all along.
