There is no greater happiness for a dog than when it finds a loving home for the first time. In the world of our furry fellows, it is an event that could be compared to our wedding day.
Unfortunately, just as people get divorced when they realize that they are not for each other, it also sometimes happens that the bond between a dog and its owner breaks.
It’s the most difficult moment for any canine, but it’s even sadder when it happens to a puppy who hasn’t had the chance to know true love before.
Sadly, this was exactly the fate that befell one puppy when her callous owners returned her to the shelter in Huntley, Illinois, after a month for a heartbreaking reason.
“I’m Just A Puppy”
When the adopters came to pick up the puppy named Lilah at the Animal House Shelter, located in Huntley, Illinois, on June 2, 2024, this dog and the shelter staff were over the moon.
Unfortunately, their mood changed completely after a little less than a month when Lilah ended up behind the bars of her kennel again.
One of the shelter’s staff members, Tabitha, revealed the heartbreaking reason Lilah was returned to the shelter by her owners so soon. According to her, these people weren’t satisfied with Lilah because they had difficulty potty training her.
As sad as she was, Tabitha was just as angry and disappointed because of these people’s decision.
“They were aware at time of adoption that she was not yet potty trained and her foster had reported that she was having accidents in the home about twice a day. But of course, she is still a puppy so needs training, patience and consistency,” Tabitha told Newsweek.
The shelter staff recorded Lilah behind the bars of her kennel right after she was returned to the shelter and decided to share her sad face with their TikTok followers via their account, @animalhouseshelter.
@animalhouseshelter Sweet baby Lilah thought she found her forever home 😭 please share to help us find her a family that will teach her and love her like she deserves. #illinois #huntley #adopt #nokillshelters #dogsoftiktok #shelterdogsneedlove #nodogleftbehind #adoptfosterrescue #volunteer #donate #typ #foryoupage #nonprofit #longtermresidents #shelterpetsoftiktok #adoptme #shelterdogs ♬ What Was I Made For? “I’m just a puppy,” it was written in the video. “I thought I found my forever. Why didn’t you teach me?”
Sadly, these people did not hear her cries, and Lilah had to continue her life in this cold, lonely place.
Life Of Suffering
This sad event was actually not the first heartbreak for Lilah.
Namely, she came to this shelter in February as one of the members of a litter rescued in southern Illinois. Even then, she felt the cruelty of this world when all her brothers and sisters were adopted while she was left alone in the shelter.
After that, she went to a foster home where she got the chance to be with a loving family for the first time. Unfortunately, she stayed there only for a month as they returned her due to a child’s allergy.
However, even after the second heartbreak, Lilah continued to attract people’s attention, so she soon got another chance.
“Lilah was sad when she came back from her foster home but was so excited when she was chosen to be a part of a family again and get out of the shelter,” Tabitha said.
As you already know, due to factors beyond her control, Lilah was returned to the shelter again. This time, it was truly devastating for this girl, and the shelter staff honestly didn’t know if she would recover from it.
However, to their delight, this dog showed amazing resilience and returned a smile to her face despite everything she’d been through. This smile brought back hope to these people that Lilah would soon meet her happiest ending.
This suffering dog deserves nothing less.
